What?Having had a tremendous amount of experience with the FFA Organization at the State and National level I knew that I wanted to be engaged with the organization at the collegiate level. This motivated me to join Virginia Tech’s collegiate FFA chapter as a freshmen in college and be involved for most of my tenure at Virginia Tech. The group which represents a membership level of the National FFA Organization is engaged in a variety of community service projects including adopting a family for Christmas, educating students about agriculture and much more. Additionally, the group serves to aid the Virginia FFA association in fulfilling its mission of delivering quality programs to students. Through my role in this club I have been able to create some very valuable friendships, serve an organization that I am incredibly passionate about and further networks of people and places in Virginia and nationally.

So What? |
Virginia Tech’s Collegiate FFA chapter serves a purpose and that is why I found this experience to be so rewarding. Acting like an alumni group of any other organization we are able to further the actions of Virginia FFA through our donation of time and resources. In helping to do just that, I have further developed my understanding of servant leadership and volunteerism. While we don’t hold leadership positions at all and aren’t actually members of the organization we can still enact great change and progress in an organization that certainly relies heavily on alumni to do so.

Now What? |
My continued involvement with Virginia Tech’s Collegiate FFA chapter has continued to open doors and opportunities for learning that I thought may end after I took off the blue corduroy jacket. Through my continued involvement I have created friendships that will last a lifetime and have sustained my involvement in the National FFA Organization that will continue after college. Furthermore, the lessons that this group of people has taught me have and will continue to drive me to use my time, talents and resources where they may be used to best impact the young people of this country.
